New and expanding companies in South Dakota invested $483.3 million in South Dakota’s
economy this past year, making it the second highest year on record since the Governor’s
Office of Economic Development began conducting the Annual Survey of Manufacturers in
The GOED has taken on a number of new initiatives in 2014, and is
encouraging local economic developers to take part and get involved. “Our
local partners in economic development play an integral role in advancing
South Dakota’s economic development agenda,” said Commissioner Pat
Costello. “By becoming involved in the various programs and opportunities
we have to offer, communities, regions, and the state as a whole all benefit.”
Among the new ventures are several training opportunities:
The International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) Basic
Economic Development Course will be held in conjunction with the University of Northern
Iowa and hosted in Blue Springs, Mo. The GOED recently became a governing member of
the Heartland Economic Development Course, Inc. – a non-profit consortium of state
development associations. Our involvement with this organization will put the GOED in a
position to influence future ED curriculum for ED practitioners throughout the multi-state
Matching funds are available to economic development corporations that wish to send a
new practitioner to an accredited IEDC Basic Economic Development course. Interested
parties are encouraged to apply for up to $1,000 training reimbursement through GOED’s
